I friends!
Today I wanted to talk about the most suitable wedding dress styles if you’re getting married in Cape Town.

Cape Town is best known for its beautiful, hot sunny summers and unmatched natural surroundings. For this reason, people flood here from around the world to get married. If you’re saying your I-do’s in Cape Town, here are my top 3 wedding themes and wedding dress advice to match:

Cape Town beach weddings

World renowned for our spectacular coastlines and blue flag beaches. Many brides, both locally and from abroad choose to wed on our beaches and my favorite beach wedding venues are:

Die Strandlooper

strandloper

If you’re going for a laid back vibe, Die Strandloper is the perfect venue. The wedding is held on the beach restaurant and a meal of freshly caught fish will be served. For a genuine South African experience, sun on your back and feet in the sand, this is for you!

Wedding dress to match:

For this style wedding, laid back bohemian wedding dresses are best. You will be walking on the sand, so keep your feet bare or with toe sandals. I suggest an easy to wear boho gown that’s simple and comfortable. Look at my Islay Rose Bohemian wedding dress collection.

Strandkombuis

The Strandkombuis is a more upmarket venue, offering the dreaminess of getting married on the famous sixteen mile beach, with all the creature comforts of a traditional wedding. You will have a Bedouin tent to protect you from the wind and world class catering and decor services.

Wedding dress to match:

For this venue I would advise high end bohemian wedding dresses. With the night being lit by fairy lights, a bit of sparkle and glamor can be donned, but I still advise choosing a style that’s easy to wear and has a soft, flowing aesthetic. Again this is not a stiletto friendly venue, so keeping your styling on the boho side is best. Think beautiful lace, beadwork and chiffon. Look at my Islay Rose custom made options for this.

Cape Town Wine farm weddings

Cape Town weddings are most typified by the wine farm wedding. We have such a vast array of world class venues that it’s hard do select just a few, but for the most luxurious wine farms, look at Ashanti, the Conservatory, Molenvliet, Groot Constantia, Babylonstoren and Grande Provence. These venues will give you the very best of the Western Cape natural beauty as well as the most unmatched catering and decor.

These wine farms have a great deal of history and some are quite opulent. For this reason you can choose a wedding dress that is formal and either traditional or vintage inspired. I would advise choosing a wedding dress that has a bit of wow factor. For all wine farm weddings, a traditional wedding dress would suit well. Bare in mind that you will likely go out among the vineyards for your photographs, so unmanageable trains are not advisable. Look either at my Molteno Collections, or at having your dream dress custom made

Luxury hotel weddings

Cape Town is home to some of the top hotels for weddings in the world. The top of which I would say are the famous Mount Nelson, providing a vintage, historic feel. The Table bay Hotel for opulence unmatched and 12 Appostles for umnatched views and service.

Wedding dress that suits

If you’ve chosen one of these breathtaking venues then I suggest your wedding dress be as memorable as your venue.Go for a high-glam wedding dress that suits your personal styling. If you’re a clean-cut modern bride, then own that style, but be sure that it’s as formal as your choice of venue. I advise a custom made wedding dress to fulfil all your dreams and needs.

I hope this helped all those planning their dream wedding in Cape Town, have fun friends and remember, your wedding is about YOU, so be true to your style and don’t let others pressure you into conforming!

The memory of your wedding day is one you’ll treasure for the rest of your life. On the day itself, all preparations are done and dusted and the big day can be enjoyed for what it is: a celebration of love and commitment. When planning a wedding, many experience stress and anxiety and this may be elevated if you’re one of the third of all South Africans diagnosed with a mental health condition. However, rest assured, there are steps and measures you can take to ensure things go without a hitch, allowing you to put all the efforts into finding your perfect dress, whether it be a modern gown with a twist, a flowing bohemian dress or a custom made Muslim wedding dress.Stress

Mental health covers a vast range of illnesses, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and eating disorders. Treatment for these illnesses vary depending on diagnosis, severity, the individual’s age and overall well-being.

Stress is a factor strongly associated with planning a wedding. The cost, finding the right venue, choosing the perfect dress, booking a photographer, the list of things to arrange is endless. One of the linking symptoms of all mental health conditions is stress, thus seeking treatment and finding stress management solutions which work for you is key when planning your wedding.

Preparation

Prepare yourself for something to go wrong, whether it be on the day itself or in the lead up. You’re relying on a lot of other people, including, caterers, seamstresses and photographers and there’s a chance that something might not be as you expected or a supplier could cancel on you at the last minute. By mentally preparing yourself for any letdown, you’re already accepting the issue, allowing you to persevere through and make alternative arrangements.

Keeping calm and taking time out to enjoy a break from your wedding plans is also beneficial for your mental health. You and your best friend could have a spa day or a nice lunch in town. Whatever it is you do, though, ban all wedding talk and embrace having some wedding-free time.

Accept help

Family and friends love a wedding and most love to pitch in and help out with the organizing. Rather than turning them away because you want to do it all yourself, accept their help. Simple things to them such as filling 100 wedding favors can be a big weight off your shoulders, but won’t seem like much to someone who hasn’t got numerous other wedding related tasks on their list to complete.

If you’re finding things are getting on top of you, don’t be afraid to seek help from your doctor and share the way you’re feeling with them. They may offer medication, if you’re not already on it, or they could temporarily increase the dose of any medication you’re on for a brief period.

When it comes to the big day, as long as you love your dress, the venue and the cake, it ultimately doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. Your wedding day should be an enjoyable one, so accept and seek any help you can to ensure it’s a day you’ll never forget.

Nearly 150,000 weddings took place in South Africa in 2015, with many of them happening outdoors. The amazing weather and perfect scenery provide some of the best backdrops for these happy occasions. Planning for these picturesque events takes dedication and some creativity. It is recommended that wedding planning take six months to a year, but realistically, many brides plan the big day their whole lives. She knows what her perfect wedding dress looks like, and she knows where she wants to get married. When an outdoor wedding is your heart’s desire, you’ve got different options, and challenges than conventional brides. The perfect outdoor wedding will be everything you hope with the right planning, and a bit of flexible creativity.

Count on Mother Nature

No matter where you plan to marry, Mother Nature may have different ideas for you. We all know her temperamental nature, so be ready for whatever she happens to deliver on your big day. Have a back up plan for rain, such as a decorative tarp or tent for an open-air wedding. Consider a beautiful fireplace for outdoor spaces in case the temperature takes a turn for the worst. One of the biggest reasons for an ethanol fireplace at an outdoor wedding is its comfort and aesthetically pleasing advantage. The idea of an eternal flame, carrying united love always, is represented by the fireplace in addition to unity candles. Plan to have someone on standby for unexpected wind, such as the maid of honor, to make sure your dress doesn’t decide to play peek-a-boo with the crowd. Provide parasols or sunglasses for guests at beach weddings or on sunny afternoons. Even if the weather man claims a perfectly sunny day, be ready for rain clouds just in case.

Plan for Acoustics

An outdoor wedding is also an open-air event, which means there are no walls to contain sound. Remember that the guests will want to hear the vows, so consider a microphone for the officiant. Think about entrance music for the guests as well; a harp is beautiful but its sound could get lost in an ocean breeze. If you have older guests, consider seating them in the front so they have a better chance of hearing the ceremony.

Speaking of Older Guests...

Make sure older guests are able to get to their seats. Choose ushers who will help Grandma navigate over your chosen terrain. Some people find sand difficult, especially with a cane. Other people may not handle hills well, and if your wedding is near a lake, there may be hilly areas to maneuver. While it’s important to pick an area that is meaningful for you, consider how your guests will make it to their seats.

Consider the First Viewing of the Bride

du

Traditionally, the groom is not to see the bride until she begins her descent down the aisle. Outdoor weddings lack the walls used indoors to hide the bride. Consider if you want to adhere to this tradition, and how you’ll make it happen. A folding screen works well, as long as the bride is able to move from the changing area to the screen. Other ideas include asking the groom to face forward until the wedding march plays, holding the wedding in a semi-secluded area where the bride emerges from behind a tree, or asking bridesmaids to shield the bride. The first viewing of the bride is trickier outdoors, but can be done with creativity and imagination.

An outdoor wedding is spectacularly beautiful. It works well for many people, but there are more unknowns involved in the ceremony. Plan for as much as possible, then know how to adapt. When you prepare for every imagined surprise, you’ll have a perfect day no matter what happens.

Hi Friends!

So my latest bridal range has been a hell-of a hit so far and I'm feeling super excited about the coming season as a result. One dress, however, has been such a hit that I feel like it diserves a blog post of it's own!

Grace, named after Grace Kelly, is a simple, clean cut wedding dress made of a stunning structured fabric. The bodice is a deep V neck, and the back is completely open.

Grace suits everyone who puts her on, and the simplicity of the design is just so incredibly striking that everyone falls in love instantly!
The skirt is a full, box pleated design and best of all - she has pockets!!

So many of my Cape Town and Johannesburg brides have been absolutely LOVING this feature and has sealed the deal!

Hi Friends!
I hope you're all enjoying the early arival of summer as much as I am! (ok other than the no water thing...)
So wedding season has kicked off with a bang and I am happy to find that the bohemian styel wedding dress is stil super popular! This of course makes perfect sense, as there is really nothing more Cape Town than the boho style of wedding dress.

For this reason, I thought I'd give you a little bit of inspiration from my past work and share some more information about the boho bridal styling.

What is a bohemian wedding dress?

Boho bridal wear is generally thought of as 1970's inspired, hippie styled dresses. This is marked by the use of loose, flowing fabrics, light dresses that skim the skin and often the use of a great deal of lace. The style rarely uses anything blingy and beadwork is kept to a minumum or is gypsey-esque in design. The use of chans can be popular, but generally the beadwork will be more organic than shiny.
Bohemian doesn't neccesarily mean cheap, as the style often uses a variety of differnt fabrics mixed together and layered textured lace.

Are you the right fit for a bohemian wedding dress?

I think you should be able to answer this question yourself, but if not, then this is the vibe: Boho brides are generally those who don't feel the pressure to conform to societal norms. You're free spirited and fun loveing. You want to be comfortable on your wedding day, if you want to dance and have fun, then the boho dress is for you!

Does my wedding venue suit the bohemian style wedding dress?

christine gregory 3 of 22

Most venues in Cape Town are well suited to the boho style wedding but if you have an evening wedding or a very formal siore then perhaps think twice.
Beach weddings, farm style weddings and, (as is very popular at the moment), forest weddings all suit the bohemian wedding perfectly. Basically, if you're out in nature, this is going to be perfect for you!

How do I accessorize my boho bridal look?

In terms of accesories, your best choice is to keep it natural. Hols back on the bling and rather than a very sparkly head piece, choose a flower crown, or some fine natural flowers pinned in your hair. Contemportary or handmade jewe;ry will suit best, and most boho brides opt for flat shoes, sandals, or even barefoot sandals. Leather sandals work beautifully, but whatever it is, keep it natural.
