Planning to get married this year? If you’re looking to have a casual and fun vibe for the big day, consider having an outdoor wedding. It’s the perfect option for couples who want to have a relaxed and less formal ceremony that their friends and family will never forget. Even better, why not have a pool wedding party? It’s a great way to save money as you can have the wedding ceremony and reception in the same place. As a typical South African wedding can cost between R70,000 to R80,000 with 50% of the budget going to the venue, it’s important to find ways to cut costs so you can spend more on other things that may matter to you. To ensure that everything—from your gown to the venue, to the food, and everything else fits your dream wedding concept, here’s the ultimate guide to planning the perfect pool wedding party.

Prepare the venue

For a poolside wedding, you’ll need to make sure that the venue can accommodate all of your guests and that it has the perfect area where you can have the ceremony. If the outdoor space has a gazebo, then that would be the ideal place to have the wedding ceremony. If not, you can DIY a gazebo using natural wood. Decorate it with vines and flowers to soften the look. Enhance the gazebo and the poolside area with strings of twinkling lights, paper lanterns, and swathes of fabric.

The pool itself should be party-ready too. Make sure that the pool water has been changed at least two days before the wedding. Also, ensure that the water has the right mix of pool chemicals to keep it clean and to keep guests safe if anyone decides to take a dip (or if anyone falls in, for that matter). If your reception will be held in the evening, plan on floating some candles and flowers in the pool to give it a magical feel. For safety, keep the pool area clear of wires or electrical cords which may pose potential accidents or injuries.

Choose the right gown

The right gown should make you look and feel like a queen on the big day but it should be also comfortable enough to wear outdoors. Bohemian style gowns are perfect for a pool wedding party as the ethereal vibe of this gown fits well with your outdoor wedding concept. If you’re planning to dance the night away, consider a tea-length or a mini-wedding dress. For a fun touch, change into a pair of classic white sneakers for the reception to give you more freedom to mingle with your guests and dance with your groom.

Have the right food

Plan on having food that won’t spoil or go bad in hot weather. You should also have several options for beverages especially if you picked a hot day to have a pool wedding party. You can’t go wrong with appetizing and savory comfort foods, an array of cheeses and crackers, chilled wine, and fresh juices.

Entertain your guests

Nothing enhances a pool party than good music. You can hire a live band to cover danceable hits from Bruno Mars, Michael Jackson, and Beyonce which will encourage your guests to hit the dance floor. Set up a mini outdoor theatre using a projector and a screen where you can show pictures and videos of you and your groom. You can also hire a DJ to spin some great tunes or if you have a flair for making great mixes, simply attach your MP3 player or laptop to the speakers and assign someone to be the DJ for the day.

A pool wedding party is a fun way to celebrate one of the most memorable days of your life. Follow these tips to plan the ultimate pool wedding extravaganza and have a great time with your family and friends.

Hi Friends!
I wanted to show you some images from a creative shoot that I was priveledged to have been a part of recently! I was approached by Simone from Yellow Papaya saying that she was involved in creating a styled shoot with a bridal theme and would I be interested in lending out a dress or two for it. After having looked at Simone's work, I jumped onboard! Her styling is first class so I was excted at the chance to work with her.

The theme was a laid back, South African farm wedding, so I put these two dresses from my latest 2017 Bridal collection. The gowns are both illusion bodices with flowing chiffon skirts. Perfect for a summer wedding in Cape Town.

Simone arranged to do the shoot at the very elegant and sophosticated Bellevue Wine Estate in Stellenbostch. This historic venue has an original Cape Dutch farmhouse that was built in 1803 and breathtaking grounds on which to shoot.

Simone has formed a collaborative team with the talemted photographer Riehan Bakkes naming it the Dodgeburn Collective. Riehan took these gorgeous images while Simone did the styling. The models, rocking my wedding dresses are Deisy Narcy and Kayla.
To make sure these models were perfectly finished off, hair and make-up was done by Cellia Fourie.

All in all I couldn't be happier with the outcome and I hope I will get the opportunity to work with this creative team again one day!

In December 2016 I completed Candace’s dream wedding dress and spectacular veil! It was a project that required many hours of work, but in the end it was well worth it!

Candace came to me after having tried on several dresses but none of them were quite right. She knew she wanted a certain look for her wedding gown and chose me to help her to achieve it.

She wanted a V neck lace dress with long sleeves, and a fit ‘n flare shape. She wanted the skirt to be in soft tulle for that romantic, floaty look. She wanted a statement 1.2mtr long train with lace cascading down onto the skirt. To accompany this gorgeous dress, Candace wanted a lace edged cathedral veil.

I was excited to start this project as it’s just the type of couture work that I love! We went fabric shopping together and she selected a stunning cream beaded, embroidered lace with a magnificent embroidered guipure edging. The lace was heavily beaded with pearls and was perfect to achieve the look she was going for.

I got to work creating a dress that would fit her like a glove. The bridal gown had a fully structured corset and the whole body was covered with lace that was cut and carefully hand sewn into place. The skirt required 18 meters of mesh, covering 9 meters of tulle. We hand sewed lace motiv’s down onto the tulle. The sleeves ended in the extravagant lace ending, as was the neckline and keyhole back detail.

To complete Candace’s bridal look, we hand sewed a wide, intricate lace trim to the edge of her two-meter-long Cathedral Veil which trailed regally behind her.
When I finally saw these pictures from her wedding day I was blown away by how gorgeous she looked! This couture bridal look was certainly something for the record books, a spectacular couture look that I’m very proud of.

Thank you, Candace, all the best for the future!

Michelle was quite the blushing bride in her dusty pink wedding gown. Here’s her story…

The lovely Michelle came to me after having seen my work at the SA WEdding show in 2016. She is a practical lady, and while she wanted to look beautiful and elegant on her wedding day, she also wanted a dress she could feel comfortable in. The didn’t like the idea of any dress that she would have to fuss with. She wanted something light and comfortable that would hold in place, allowing her to let loose and enjoy her big day. Other than this, Michelle knew that she didn’t want a white wedding dress. She had seen that a number of my dresses were blush pink or champagne in colour and she liked this idea.

At the consultation Michelle tried on a few of my bridal gowns and she really likes the dresses I had made with the illusion neckline. The confort factor of these styles were most appealing and she liked how some of my dresses used the illusion mesh to hold delicately scallopped lace against the skin.

We also found that the pinky colours looked really good on her skin tone and that the A-line silhouette suited her figure best.

With all this in mind, I designed a corset dress for her with illusion bodice and lace cap sleeve detail. The back lace would be shaped in a v to slim down the back and the skirt would be made from soft tulle to create an A line skirt. I would then make a thin satin belt to cinch in the waist.

With this style settled, Michelle and I headed off to the fabric shop. We found a gorgeous, delicate dusty pink lace with subtle bead and sequin details on it. We paired this with a elegant crepe satin and soft Italian Tulle. We selected 3 different complementing colours of tulle in shades of pink, blush and nude. The effect when the three were mixed together was absolutely dreamy! They looked like a floaty sunset cloud.

The dress was a dream come true, after a few fittings and tweaks, it all came together beautifully and Michelle looked simply stunning on her wedding day.
